Our Farro is organically grown by Monty Sandor in southern Saskatchewan.

Farro, also called Emmer, is an ancient wheat strain similar to the very first wheat cultivated by ancient Mediterranean civilizations. Farro dominated the fields of the Near East, northern Africa, and Europe until early farmers of Ancient Rome crossed wheat species to produce modern strains like durum.

Chefs and home cooks around the world are rediscovering Farro as a hearty side dish, a protein replacement or a salad complement. Farro is very high in protein, with strong, cohesive gluten. It makes beautiful pasta flour—Italians have been making pasta with Farro for centuries.

To cook, combine 1 part Farro with 4 parts water and boil for 45-60 minutes, or until tender but firm.

Farro is new to me

I wanted to incorporate more whole grains in my diet and decided to try farro. It is so good and I love buying Canadian and supporting the farmers that are on the labels. I am so glad I discovered Flourist. Thank you. Delivery was fairly quick too.

Red Fife for 50% WW with Biga

I follow Ken Forkish’s recipe and have found your Red Fife gives the best results. Pricey compared to the grocery store, but well worth it.

First time cooking with Farro

My first experience with Farro was using it in the Moroccan Spiced Winter Farro Salad recipe on the Flourist website. Farro is easy to cook, the recipe was amazing and the unique nutty flavour of the Farro really added to the dish. I definitely plan on making Farro a regular part of our diet.

Flourist is wonderful!

Flourist is wonderful. I have transitioned to baking all my own bread, and Flourist flour has a depth of flavor I can’t get from grocery store bread. My elderly aunt and friends now keep asking me to bake for them, and they eagerly await their mini loaves whenever I can spare extras. Best, I do not get stomachaches when I eat things made from Flourist flour. (I suspect it has something to do with residual chemicals in the soil of USDA organic flour.) Thanks Shira, for working to make delivery happen. My family and friends will enjoy their holiday flour gifts as well. I also love the beans, quinoa and whole grains. Thanks all!
