Flourist Sifted Red Fife Flour is milled from organically grown Red Fife wheat from Vonda, Saskatchewan. This flour is ideal for creating moist, flavourful cookies, muffins, pancakes, and both sweet loaves. This flour is a perfect replacement for white all purpose flour from the grocery store—more flavourful, more nutritious and freshly milled.
While still high in protein, the gluten in this wheat is slower to develop and is therefore more resilient to over-mixing, which commonly results in tough muffins and cakes. Our Sifted Red Fife Flour has an 80% extraction rate.
Our hand-crafted Austrian stone mill slowly and gently crushes grain at a low temperature, a process that produces beautiful, aromatic, nutritious and delicious flour.
Our sifted flours are passed through fine screens to remove the larger bran and germ particles leaving beautiful, soft and richly textured flour. The product bears little resemblance to the typical, highly processed shelf stable flour found on grocery store shelves. You’ll notice the difference right away: the colour is natural and the aroma is unmistakable.
We recommend storing our fresh flours in the fridge or freezer to maintain freshness.

Eating Gluten Again!
I have had a severe gluten intolerance to modern wheat for over 8 years - debilitating stomach pain. Two of my sons also have a mild intolerance to modern wheat. A friend told me about Red Fife and suggested that I may be able to tolerate it. I searched the web and found Flourist, as I wanted to be sure to buy Canadian flour. Also, I can source multi-grain Red Fife in Guelph where I live but am unable to find all purpose flour. I prefer to use all purpose for pies and pastries and most breads. With my first Flourist order I baked the most gorgeous artisan-style bread and ate half of it myself in one sitting!!! I waited for the stomach pain but it never came! Voila, no symptoms - I couldn’t believe it. I use to be a big baker but lost my mojo having to use gluten-free flours - just not the same at all. This Christmas, wow, I’m going to bake up a storm!!!! Hahaha. The family won’t know what hit them. (I’ve already prepared tons of Christmas morning Red Fife cinnamon rolls for the freezer, and cookies for the kids.) Thank you so much for producing such a wonderful product. I’m in love with my Flourist Red Fife flour. I feel like a whole person again, being able to bake and eat wheat products. I can’t believe my flour that was milled on Monday has arrived today. Thursday! I’ve started a fermented bread dough and am looking forward to the results. Love this flour, love this company!
My first Flourist purchase was this red fife flour - arrived so fast, just as promised. The flour is so different from mass-produced flour, so much more aromatic and "real" tasting. I love that it is milled just before shipping, and that I know where it was grown. I try to cook with/eat local products as much as possible, but there are just not a lot of options for sourcing local grain products. Flourist has come along to fill that niche and I look forward to trying ALL of the products over time.
