Our Farro is organically grown by Brian Schaff in Southey, Saskatchewan.

Farro, also called Emmer, is an ancient wheat strain similar to the very first wheat cultivated by ancient Mediterranean civilizations. Farro dominated the fields of the Near East, northern Africa, and Europe until early farmers of Ancient Rome crossed wheat species to produce modern strains like durum.

Chefs and home cooks around the world are rediscovering Farro as a hearty side dish, a protein replacement or a salad complement. Farro is very high in protein, with strong, cohesive gluten. It makes beautiful pasta flour—Italians have been making pasta with Farro for centuries.

To cook, combine 1 part Farro with 4 parts water and boil for 45-60 minutes, or until tender but firm.

Always a delight

We couldn't wait to get yet another bag of canadian farro from Flourist. Nothing compares in the grocery stores and it is always a huge hit at home.

Fresh and tasty

I use Farro for salads and for baking. I always look for grains that don't cook out to mush. The Farro Grain I bought from Flourist is superb; it is fresh and cooks beautifully and has a very delicate taste that makes my salads absolutely delicious. I will definitely buy them again.

I truly enjoy preparing various salads using ancient grains from Flourist. This week I chose Farro grain; they were fresh and full of flavour. They are easy to cook and best of all they grains remain firm and whole after cooking making them excellent for salads and sides. I am a huge fan of Flourist and all their great products.
