Our French Lentils are organically grown by Dwayne Woolhouse at Crestview Organic Farms near Assiniboia, SK, and by Will Robbins in Laura, Saskatchewan.
First cultivated in the Haute-Loire region of south-central France, French lentils are known for their peppery flavour, slate-blue and green colour and firm texture. They hold their shape well, making them the go-to lentils for soups and salads. Like all legumes, French lentils are packed with nutrition and are an excellent meat alternative.
Cook using 1 part lentils to 3 parts water. Bring to a boil and cook until soft, about 25-30 minutes. Drain.

Cooked the lentils using the steam method then added olive oil salt and lemon juice. Use the cooked lentils scattered on salads, curries, stews, everything for added protein, fibre and nutrients. Canadian grown.

This is the first time I’m trying French Lentils from the Flourist and they are delicious. The cooking time is super fast and I will order them again.
It took so long for the lentils to soften. I kept the lid on the pot during the 45 minutes since adding the lentils and they were still too al dente. The sauce was very tasty. Next time I will do it in the Instapot.
Hi there Keith, I am so glad you enjoyed the sauce, but sorry to hear about the lentil cooking experience. French Lentils are loved because they stay firm after cooking, but after 45 minutes they should definitely not still be al dente! A few suggestions for next time that might help: - try soaking the lentils first! Even a quick 2 hour soak will help them cook more quickly. - try increasing the heat - the lentils won't cook over just a simmer and need a bit more of a boil to cook! - try adding a bit more liquid to the sauce which might help them cook a bit more quickly! I love using lentils in my various fresh salads. The French Lentils from Flourist are perfect as they don't get all mushy. The taste is not only delicious, but adds that nutty flavour to my salads. I also tried using these lentils in an Indian Lentil soup, and they just made it so much better because you can still taste the distinct flavour of the lentils even after adding various spices.
