This class is an introduction to the experience of baking sourdough bread with our flavourful, freshly milled flours, specially crafted with the beginner in mind. Classes focus specifically on the benefits of baking with whole grains.

Sourdough Baking with Flourist focuses on the techniques and tricks specifically required for baking sourdough with freshly milled Flourist flours. In this 3 1/2 hour class, you will learn the basics of feeding and maintaining a healthy starter, and will learn to bake sourdough bread from scratch with our Baker/Miller Campbell Hart. This includes hands on instruction.
You will also have an introduction to scoring techniques on a loaf to bake in class and will leave with a shaped loaf in your new banneton to bake at home. Light snacks and beverages are also provided. Wine and beer will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
Note: if this purchase is a gift, you may pick up the Round Banneton, the Wood Handled Bench Scraper, and the Flourist Tote Bag in advance for gifting the class. Please contact us to arrange this.

The sourdough baking class was incredible and it greatly exceeded my expectations! The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. You could see and feel how passionate everyone at The Flourist is about creating healthy, organic, Canadian flour and educating everyone on it. We felt right at home and there were so many yummy treats for us. Campbell walked us through each step of the process with a thorough explanation and help was available. We were given everything needed to bake our own sourdough at home and I now feel confident to make my own sourdough and can’t wait to get started!! Thanks so much for the wonderful experience!
I had such a wonderful experience last night. There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon I stepped into the restaurant, the teaching was excellent and the bread? Oh Lordeee! The most delicious that I have ever tasted (besides my mum's of course). In trepidation but still looking forward to attempting my own sourdough at home. Flour, straight from the farmer with wheatgerm and bran in tact and milled on site? This is the kind of activism that I can get my teeth into!
Wonderful! This class was a great informative experience. I had been reading many books on sourdough bread making and trying various methods but there is nothing like taking this hands on class whether you are a complete beginner or have had some experience. The baker was an excellent teacher and I learned new approaches to baking sourdough bread. The atmosphere was easy and very comfortable. Couldn't wait to get home and bake my loaf of bread the next morning!
This class far exceeded my expectations! Great instruction in a lovely environment. We were so well taken care of! Every need met and the most delicious snacks to help us have energy for bread making ;) I highly recommend this class if you are interested in bread making, learning about wonderful Canadian flour and enjoying this lovely shop and the people who created it!
